A two-week Bicoastal Road Trip on the Big Iceland
I made my way to plan travel planner to a large eight-day trip to the Big Iceland and found so much to see to do and on the Kona Coast alone, I took two weeks to fully explore the island. So, here by the combination of my experience with Kona Coast recommended by locals, is then a two-week road trip, who will complete the Big Iceland treatment.
I would suggest you stay a week on the Kona Coast and the next in Hilo to have a great starting point for your many explorations. We begin our road trip planning on the Kona side, the sunnier region. We stayed in the Kailua-Kona, Hawaii Website the Ironman Triathlon (scheduled for October 11 this year) and home to the revered King Kamehameha, the leader who united the islands. It has a large port and pier, where you could enjoy dinner each night with a view of the sun dipped behind the horizon of water. My favorite was the Kona Brewing Company (roasted garlic, homemade Focaccia & melted gorgonzola dip).
Take care, many beaches are in your road trip planner. Should go snorkeling Kahaluu Beach Park, Surfers can on White Sands Beach, privacy buffs to Kona Coast State Park, and beach lovers choose Anaehoomalu Bay, Hapuna Beach and Mauna Kea Beach.
Other clubs in your street route in Kailua-Kona note: Hulihee Palace, Kokuaikaua Church, Kamehameha's Compound Kamakahonu Bay, Kona Wine Market at affordable Prizes and souvenirs. Add a luau in your journey, I went to Iceland Breeze Luau because it was right on the beach in the King Kamehameha Compound at the Kailua Pier.
Along the Kohala Coast take your ride to the north in a picturesque towns like Hawi. The road ends a few miles behind Hawi, where the Pololu Valley (very dramatic view will!). But to catch first a trip to the Ocean Rider Seahorse Farm at the Natural Energy Lab, the only Seahorse farm in the United States. Stroll through the Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site, the Temple Kamehameha built the war of God to insure his success in battle. Follow to Highway 270 in North Kohala Lapakahi the State Historical Park for a view of a typical 14th Century Hawaiian Village and the Mo'okini Luakini Heiau. The original Kamehameha statue is along this route, and a view of Maui. A mile from the Pololu lookout enjoy a picnic on the beach Keokea Park on the way back, read Puako Petroglyph Archaeological District in the.
Along the south coast on the Kona side You will find Captain Cook, Kealakekua Bay, the Refuge and Honaunau Bay Place. Quite these perfect for a day-long exploration make that your way to add travel planner with historic sites and monuments, great scenic shots of the bays and snorkeling / swimming at Honaunau Bay, as the second best place for snorkeling or diving with turtles, Fish, corals and huge growths!
Now it is time to move your home base of the Hilo side to give you much time to explore the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Leaving Kailua-Kona, belong to plan your route, stops at South Point (the southernmost point in the U.S.), the Punaluu Bakery in Naalehu, and the Punaluu Black Sand Beach.
We have not had to spend nearly enough time in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, because the ranger told us the current lava flow outside the park (in the August 2008, an hour drive to the end of Highway 130 in Kaimu, then 20 minutes walk across lava fields to the image area). Schedule two days in your street to travel planner fully explore Kilauea Visitors Center, Halemaumau Crater, Thurston Lava Tube, Devastation Trail, and a Crater Rim Drive and the sunset to trek to the lava flow. Local Shannon Cormie said: "You see the ribbon of red lava snake its way to the side of the mountain and then thunder into the ocean is a sight you will never forget."
One reason to place Hilo front and center in your road trip planning is because it's so lush! David Carpenter, a local recommends the Akatsuka Orchid Garden for his wide variety of orchids. It lies about halfway between Volcano and Hilo. Shannon recommends Banyan Drive, Liliuokalani Gardens, Lyman Museum & Mission House, the Pacific Tsunami Museum, and the beautiful botanical gardens Nani Mau Gardens Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden and as World Botanical Garden.
From there you take your trip planning to the Hamakua Coast, stopping at Akaka Falls and lunch in Honokaa. Then look at Waipio Valley, the birthplace of Hawaii's kings before for Waimea, a cowboy town with the Parker Ranch Visitor Center & Museum as the focus.
exploring pencil in a full day of your trip planner Mauna Kea. Rent a four-wheel drive vehicle at the head (Book 13 796 feet) or a full-day tour where guides will be to hidden waterfalls, sacred sites and an observatory, treasured by astronomers take over the world.
All the above will fill your Big Iceland Road Trip to the edge. And you're sure that some new places and discover. But take heart, if they do not, at all in this round, you have a perfect excuse for another road trip planner to fill for your next visit!
