How to sell your old Macbook For most cash
This entry is my personal experience I wanted with all Apple laptop fans, who like their MacBook or MacBook Pro would upgrade to a newer smaller model and the damage will be done this upgrade to their wallets.
Towards the end of the year I found myself dying to this 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo get 13 "Unibody MacBook came out, that in October last year. It is not a very new model, but a significant upgrade from my old 13 "MacBook, that all my photo and video editing, web surfing and other needs would be enough Plus., I like the new design.
Price tag on this unibody model is still around $ 800 - $ 1,000 each go to the place you to buy it. I did not want to spend more than $ 600, if. Sadly, more even Apple does not "trade" programs. So I had to sell my old MacBook to raise the rest of the cash.
I decided to to review Internet ideas. All forums will be consulting with the contributions of eBay and Craigslist filled. (Come to think of it, these two come up every time given the need to sell something.)
Craigslist
Idea:
- List your MacBook on site
- Get the buyer to pick up and hand the required cash
- No fees, no shipping costs, and apparently no hassle
Reality:
- You get tons of calls from people offering to help you sell your MacBook for a "small and reasonable "fee
- You receive phone calls with offers that are lower than ridiculous, what you ask for
- You have your ad every few days to repost it under all the new posts published every hour lost. Transfer is difficult: they have to change your ad every time looks like Craigslist software as new, otherwise it will be blocked as too similar to your older.
eBay
Idea:
- List your MacBook (or any other laptop, desktop, car etc) for a small fee.
- It is sold (small fee again) paid (if you PayPal, the now-pay a use fee)
- Ship to find laptop to the purchaser (pay proper packaging, postage and forget do not get your item insured)
Reality
- Fees are not small at all: between eBay and PayPal is about 15% -20% of the price you get. So if I asked $ 410 for my MacBook, I would walk with $ 320 - $ 340
- To top dollar for your used MacBook (or any other laptop / PC) It is in top condition, with piles of installed software, with all original manuals (not everyone keeps original manuals and packaging)
- There is always a threat to ebayscam
I did not save the original packaging or manuals. I found the Recovery disks and used them formatting the hard drive and not fresh install, so the new owners do not inherit all my personal stuff: REALLY time consuming Process.
I posted on my MacBook on eBay for $ 600. I thought that would cover all the possible fees, insurance and packaging / Shipping and leave me with about $ 450. Exactly what I was, my goal for the test MacBook seen better days but still no problems.
EBay Results
I got about 4 or 5 e-mails of traveling business people, "asked if I (could Nigeria Ship can not these people to come up with another place?)
About a week after listing was posted sold my laptop ... To a person with "0" Feedback. Googling the address in the profile showed the Turkish Embassy in Malta (?) No e-mail, no deposit, no answers to my questions.
EBay refunds Your final value fees of 8 days after filing Unpaid Item Dispute, but there is no refund of fees your listing. If you use any listing upgrades - You are screwed. A $ 70 Upgrade Featured First you get more views and potential buyers, but if one of "Nigerian" or "Turkish diplomats" not to buy - your loss.
Second time was the laptop buyer offered a money order for $ 2,000 sold and asked to send the laptop with the price difference to send. I think now everyone has heard of this one as well.
paid for the third time: Buyers of chopped PayPal account. Had I shipped the laptop the same day - I would have lost it. The account owner opened the unauthorized transaction claim the next morning.
I still think eBay is a great place to buy things, but it is not safe the place to sell.
The best place I found for sale on my MacBook-line was to target = "_blank"> www.LaptopsIntoCash.com
www.LaptopsIntoCash.com comfortable with a detailed classification of all Apple laptop models surprised. To my satisfaction, they offered $ 420 for my model, and (I had to check even) $ 365 for the model with 1.83GHz Core Duo.
Since my goal was at $ 400 and I start to check further off. I found no hidden Fees or fine print 20Page long vague disclaimers.
target = "_blank"> Procedure laptop is very simple: you describe, they give you cash offer for them. If you are happy with it - fill quickly fill in contact form and submit it. You will receive a confirmation e-mail. Best: You will pay for shipping. you even send a special box designed for shipping laptop computers, so you know, it is not damaged be. Once the box - pack your laptop and drop off the box or in any FedEx Kinko's. Once your laptop is LaptopsIntoCash send you check or PayPal payment. You can track the package through FedEx website at any time.
Paranoid by eBay outages, I called the listed number: 1-888-880-8283. A friendly lady (no machine) pick up: "Laptops in cash. How can I help you ?..." They went through my process resumed offering them $ 5 extra for every laptop sent back received within 3 days after the date of the box is a customer. I was also told that they are legally obliged things to wipe all hard drives the processing of any other laptop (So, people, 2: Do not waste your first time as I did before installing new OS. 2 Be not paranoid if you do not find a way to erase your hard drive - they do it will be because it's the law)
I went for it. Submitted my offer and shipping address. Received E-mail confirmation: "Your quote has been received and confirmed. We are sending you the protective packaging within 24 hours. / Www.laptopsintocash.com. Box came within 3 days. Inside: prepaid shipping label. I grabbed my MacBook and threw it away on our Kinko's. Three days later sent me a confirmation compny be sent by e-mail - laptop arrived and has been controlled. I asked for a control versus PayPal (PayPal takes 3-4% fee for getting the money). I received my check within a few days. The whole process took 12 days.
To sum up:
- Craigslist - Waste of time (unless you like really really contacted by a decent person that your laptop)
- EBay - waste of time and money. Sell your kid's toys, your vintage records, but not laptops. Unfortunately, this company tries attract more buyers include eyes to all kinds of crooks and it will charge for their screw ups.
- target = "_blank"> www.LaptopsIntoCash.com - way to go. Offered most money for my MacBook used. Communication was prompt and polite. Service was fast with no hick ups. I did exactly what was quoted $ 5 plus bonus. And I I show my new unibody to it.
