14th Dist. Candidates clash over job creation
Republican challenger for the 14th Congressional District said the creation of jobs are the United States' problem No. 1 for a League of Women Voters forum Monday night.
But one of the few political differences between Ethan Hastert and Randy Hultgren is how to create these jobs.
Hultgren believes in the expansion and extension of several tax credits to reduce unemployment.
Hastert is no fan of tax credits or the federal stimulus package. Instead, he favors a general economic policy, which he described as the attitude of the government from the backs of entrepreneurs.
"You can not spend your way to prosperity," Hastert said, referring to the relative Inflation of jobs created by the Federal Ministry stimulus to output compared the amount of tax dollars into the program as evidence. "What I entrepreneurs listen ... is not necessarily that they are interested in a tax credit. You do not want more government. They want the government of her back. "
Hastert said, that means giving companies a degree of comfort to invest in their business by not creating new charges for them by expensive health care reform Changes to their insurance or increased energy costs through measures such as cap and trade.
Hultgren believes in the creation of jobs with a tax credit Stimulate employment. He also wants a 10-year expansion in the research and development tax credit, and supports an extension of 2003 tax credits sometimes as the "Bush tax credits."
Hultgren said he wants to increase the tax credit for children and increase the tax deduction for married Couples. Hultgren is a fan of extending the homebuyer tax credit.
The general message of all these tax credits, Hultgren said, is an atmosphere welcome to businesses and families to create.
"We need to grow the private sector, and we know that by providing incentives to them," Hultgren said. He referred to Illinois as a bad example, that of the atmosphere.
"When we attacked the private sector and bring more charges and taxes and burdens on them, they have chosen to leave the state of Illinois, "said Hultgren." The same is the United States of America is happening. "
